About Us

Fabric Art offers creative sewing and fabric design classes for kids and adults since 2009. There are a wide variety of weekly creative classes as well as workshops, holiday camps and parties too. Fabric Art Studio is the brainchild of Hong Kong-based Alifya Kasubhai. Alifya's passion and love for fabrics and everything related to fabric design, led her to create a warm and welcoming studio where her students get to experience, learn and create. Alifya holds a M.Sc. in Home Economics with Textiles. She is also a qualified Teacher of Visual Art & Design Technology holding a PGCE from the University of Sunderland. She has many years of experience working with different age students in Kindergarten, Primary and Secondary schools in Hong Kong. Her classes are small and hands-on, and the students learn everything about fabrics and take home ready to wear creations and various home decorations.

Fabric Design & Crafting

Ages 4 to 6 years

Working with fabrics and fibers helps children to learn how various fabrics are structured. It supports their understanding as well as develop greater sensitivity to color and tone, texture, line and shapes.
Children learn to use line, shape, color, tone, pattern, rhythm, and texture expressively. Simple print -making and creative projects with fabrics and fibers help to further their sensory development.
They are encouraged to use fabric in both two and three dimensions for e.g. using free stitching for changing and developing a fabric surface OR designing their own fabric imaginatively with a range of techniques such as stenciling, dyeing, and batik etc.

Fabric Design and Creative Sewing

Ages 6 and above

Through experiencing different forms of printing and painting techniques, students get the opportunity to use and produce prints and projects for functional use.
Basic Sewing activities encourage children to make creative use of materials to invent and model their own design. Children are encouraged to make design decisions about the layout and surface design of their work. They are also offered the opportunity to learn mixed media techniques.
This curriculum follows a more advanced sewing technique with understanding of basic sewing tools, hands on experience on a sewing machine, pressing equipment, marking tools, scissors, and rotary cutters. Students learn how to follow and design patterns and garments.

Parties for Kids & Adults

Fabric Art organizes creative themed parties for kids and adults. Participants learn to craft, celebrate with cake and snacks and enjoy their time together! Activities include designing a T-shirt, bag, scarf, cushions etc.…and a special gift for the one with the birthday.
We also offer personalized gift bags and party favors upon request. Price depends upon the activity chosen including craft supply and snacks. Birthday cake and any other food item can be ordered through Fabric Art or brought in from outside. Details to be confirmed upon reservation of the party.
